AP Is Taken to Task by Former CNN-er Eason Jordan: Capt Jamil Whoooosein?

AP Is Taken to Task by Former CNN-er Eason Jordan: Capt Jamil Whoooosein?

Associated Press has been taking heat for sometime for its Iraq War reporting on more than one front.  However, the most recent and the most controversial issue in this area is AP’s repeated (over 60 times!) use of a Iraqi Police Captain Jamil Hussein as a source for stories taking place in Baghdad.

At some point, bloggers (notably Flopping Aces,  Michelle Malkin, and Confederate Yankee, among others) began questioning this oft-cited source, and began demanding that AP either produce the shadowy Capt. Hussein or retract statements sourced to him.

Now, former CNN-er, Eason Jordan (who is in Iraq) has researched the matter and has concluded that there is no such creature as Iraqi Police Captain Jamil Hussein.  (Hat tip:  lgf.)

Your move, AP.  (Unfortunately, AP is apparently STILL stonewalling.)

Full disclosure:  I have had no respect for AP for years now.  It is nice that AP is finally being called to account – not that AP is responding in a cooperative way.

Update: Michelle Malkin blogs that Capt Jamil Hussein HAS been found to exist AFTER ALL!  (Now, to see if his stories hold up to the facts.)
