Send Your SOS NOW to Your Congressman and Senators!
We often talk of sending out an “SOS” in time of need. What does SOS literally mean? It means “Save Our Ship.”
Well, the time has arrived for all patriotic Americans to send out an SOS to Congress to save America’s only two remaining active battleships – the USS Iowa and the USS Wisconsin, as a Senate-House Armed Services conference meet be meeting this week to approve turning these two monsters into …. MUSEUMS, for God’s sake!
Suffice it to say that these babies are HUGE and POWERFUL. What is their biggest asset? Sixteen-inch guns that can lob shells the size of Volkswagen “bugs” against a land-based enemy from a safe location off-shore.
Suffice it, also, to say that there is no way that these ships could be built today.
But, leave it up to the Pentagon bean-counters and the Perfumed-Prince Naval Admirals (whose ranks now boast “Lady Admirals!”) to be lobbying Congress hard to KILL these battleships (which are currently required to be kept in reserve), so that the Navy can press ahead with the FAR less-powerful and far MORE expensive DD(X) destroyer, which will come off the presses for a mere $5 or $6 Billion dollars a copy.
Only problem is: The Iowa and the Wisconsin are real steel and wood ships that can really sail the seven seas, whereas the DD(X) is at present only the gleam in a contractor’s eye. (The first DD(X) isn’t scheduled off the assembly line until …..
(get this!) the year 2015 AT THE EARLIEST.
I guess the Navy hopes that “concept drawings” of the DD(X) are supposed to keep the Chinese at bay during the interim between now and 2015!
Guess who wants to see these ships kept on active duty, according to Robert Novak, the author of the piece linked to above? The US Marines (and the Army), who would be the ones benefiting from those mighty guns in the future, even as they benefited from them in Korea and VietNam.
Somewhere this bean-counting ass-hattery of closing bases and killing weapons systems has got to stop. Clearly, the momentum for stopping this “inside-the-Beltway” idiocy will have to come from “We the People.”

I'm not qualified to comment on the usefulness of these ships...but am I correct in inferring that you have some type of problem with "lady" admirals?
Hi, Elizabeth! How are you? Hmmm? Me? A problem with a feminized, largely-pregnant Navy giving flag rank to women? Nahhhhhhh. How could you even THINK such a thing, Elizabeth? I am absolutely crushed! ;-) (Hint: Years ago, old Navy enlisted men had a saying that went something like this: "There are two things that don't belong on this ship: Liquor and women." The saying is as true today as it was 50 years ago. Too bad the Perfumed Prince Admirals don't get it.) Another hint: How many women do you think our next major adversary (the Red Chinese) have on their ships?
Well, of course the Chinese aren't going to have any women on their ships--they kill so many girl babies they are going to have a major shortage of women pretty soon..
Feminized ships? I think it's a great idea. In fact, let's just get rid of the men; then no one will get pregnant. Plus you will have sailors who won't visit prostitutes in foreign ports, picking up STDs, or sexually abusing the local women and giving the U.S. a bad name.
. . . or winning any future battles. . . .
...and be the favorite target of all enemies: each us sailor-girl pow is a private sex-slave!
I don't want to get into too sensitive a subject for you here gunjam, but our mostly male military hasn't been winning too much lately...
POWs sometimes get tortured...would women be tortured worse than men? hard to know...
an honest question: First, it has been proven that even minor torture of a female pow will inflict tremendous mental harm on her male fellow pows. Second, the liberal media, the Pentagon, and the Bush/Clinton Administrations did a MAJOR cover-up of the fact that the female Army major that served as a POW during the FIRST Gulf War was sodomized by her Iraqi captors. So, in a word: Yes, they would most certainly be tortured worse by Muslim captors -- if not all captors. As far as our military not winning too much lately, where are you getting your news? We don't lose any battles in Iraq, on the one hand, because there are virtually no battles, as the terrorists know that they are out gunned by our troops. Instead, they rely on cowardly roadside bombs and ambushes, in the confidence that the seditious fifth column of the MSM will spin these events into a (lying) tapestry of defeat. You must get your news from other sources: Our troops our doing great, their chief limitation being the "handcuffs" by way of Marquis de Queensbury Rules of Engagement, courtesy of Dumbsfeld and his bevy of Perfumed Prince generals.
