Vox Day: Ron Paul's Numbers Picking up.

Although Ron Paul is congressman of a district not far from my own, he is not my first choice for Republican nominee.

Nonetheless, Vox Day likes Paul, and -- as Day points out -- so do a lot of other folks.

I mean Paul cannot be ALL BAD: He lives and dies by the Constitution. (I just cannot morally back a pull-out from Iraq.)

Update: I think pulling out of Iraq will invite utter chaos and bloodshed. That blood will be on our hands. Mr. Paul seems oblivious to such realities. Quoting the Constitution will not drown out (to my satisfaction, anyway) the cries of Iraqi children watching their mothers raped and ripped apart by Al-Qaida or Shi'ite thugs. (And I wish as much as Ron Paul to return to Constitutional Government. However, we did not get into this mess in one day. Similarly, we will not extricate ourselves from it in one day, either.)

Update: More on Ron Paul from Vox Day.

So you allow ONE issue to dictate whether or not you support someone? You'd rather support someone who doesn't follow the constition but you agree with on the Iraq war? Interesting. You do realize that the war in Iraq is estimated to cost around a trillion dollars and we're BORROWING all that money from communist China, right? I think I could make an exception on an issue like that given the circumstances. JMO

Thank you for your thoughts. Valid points, but not persuaded. You are not I, my friend, and your son has probably not lost his best friend in Iraq, either. Moreover, my son (also an Iraq War vet) says that if we pull out, blood will flow in the streets. (I don't supppose you remember the lives lost when we cut and run from Viet Nam, do you?) So, Yes! I WILL take the lives of innocent Iraqis who HELPED US over your trillions. Screw the Chinese. We don't have to pay them back, anyway. Ron Paul is very admirable (as are you!), but he is not infallible. -- gunjam

gun jam why arent you signing up at your nearest recruiting station?

If our current troops can extend and repeat their tours then surely you can go the extra mile.

dark, good question: first, my son is not enough? He has spent two of his last three birthdays in a war zone (Iraq or Afghanistan). So, I have to go, too, to satisfy you? Well, if it makes you any happier, I recently made repeated inquiries with the Army, and at 54, I was deemed, over the hill. However, I can supply you with the Web sites for the recruiters, if you need them. ;-)

About the war in Iraq:
One - there was NO moral or legal justification for invading a country that had not attacked us. Bush LIED about the reasons for going there. To me, this is an impeachable offense.
Two - there was no Congressional declaration of war.
Three - the Iraqi people DO NOT want us there - just ask any Vet returning from over there. My girlfriend works at a VA hospital and virtually every Iraq vet she talks to says "Get out NOW."
Four - our interventionist policy is doing nothing but helping bin Laden in his recruiting efforts.
Five - the vast majority of children killed during this conflict have been victims of OUR bombs, not the insurgents'.
Ron Paul is absolutely correct - bring the troops home today! Iraq is not our problem, it is the Iraqi people's problem, let them sort it our among themselves.

captain mike: thank you for your post. you seem to live in your own reality, so i will not try to disabuse you of your fantasies. While i admire Ron Paul greatly, you only need to read a few of the blogs by Iraqis to know that many iraqis indeed want us there. To deny this is intellectually dishonest: Leaving is easier, so you mentally justify it. Regarding a declaration of war, i agree that we should have gone that way, but let's live in the reality of now, not the fantasy of woulda-coulda-shoulda. Can you get a grip on the fact that EVEN if invading Iraq was a mistake, we have obligations there now, even as a father who sires an illegitimate child has responsibilities. Agree to disagree, i guess. -- gunjam
